i always wonder, how could a 1920s housewife leave a abusive husband if she has no family able to support her?

is it even possible for her to leave?

and even if she does manage to leave, then what? with no job experience, little education, no income, and no place to turn to.

what happens to her?

would she be trapped for the rest of her life? would she rot on the street? is this really the reality we live in?
